Toddler’s Birthday?

By fthomas | June 11, 2009

Well My problem is that my daughter 2nd birthday is next month and I don’t know what to get for her. She has too many toys, and plenty of clothes, but we want to take photos of something for overseas relatives… and it is just my husband, me and our two daughters, that will be at the party… we have no family near us. What to do to make this special for her?
Also we have limited resources…

Find a local swimming pool that offers a childs section. These sections normally have a variety of water fountain areas as well as shallow areas where the toddlers can sit and splash with their parents. This activity makes for GREAT pictures and the kids love it. The best way I know to spend an hour with a young child for her birthday.

Same thing with my son… no family around… 2nd birthday. We just got him a bunch of smaller things (a playdough kit, matchbox cars, a puzzle, etc) and gave him one thing a day for a week… then on his birthday, we made cupcakes together (what a mess!) and decorated them and ate them together… that made for some good pics. He had a riot!

EDIT… you know, there is no need to feel like you need to give something big… they are 2… and they have enough…

She’s so young, at two. Mostly they need time together with the family. Let her set the tone - cuddles and full attention. No computer, no grownup TV. Bake a cake and eat it is good.

If she has a special thing that she likes to do, like the zoo or the playground, that’s a lot of fun.

You can buy her a cloth hat from Micheals or Target for $2 and let her decorate it with feathers and glitter. Or a t-shirt with fabric paint.

Whatever you do…have fun with her.

    Happy Birthday to her.

For my daughters 2nd birthday we had a very small party (only family) due to limited resources and we were across the country from home. We had a great Wiggles party, made fruit salad and vegetable soup together (just like the wiggles songs), danced to her wiggles CD and had a bunch of streamers; a wiggles tablecloth, cups and plates. She had such a blast she didn’t even notice that at the time we couldn’t even afford a wiggles cake (just bought a cheap premade one) and still talks about her wiggles party!

HI. Our daughter will turn 2 soon and we live by ourselves with absolutely no family as well. We will be having a party with just the three of us. We are going to have a pool party with a BBQ, The same as what we did for her first birthday. All kids love water and sausages. We’re going to hang balloons up all around the yard and put some water in our little kids pool. It doesn’t take much to entertain little kids. We’re going to bring all her toys outside. It’s nice for us (Mum and Dad) to also have a nice day. I’ll sit outside and probably have a few wines and my partner will more than likely have a few beers. Just enjoy the day as best you can with what you’ve got.

Hi, how about personalized books? Kids love to hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Teddy Bear Land, Ballerina Princess, Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they’re very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift… It’s something they can enjoy now and keep forever!! Good Luck!
